Hi, I’m Steven Hisey
From the time I was little I wanted to make the world a better place. I would imagine being a fireman, police officer, or a doctor. I wanted to help people. At the same time, I also dreamed about being a major league baseball player. Maybe I could help people during the week and play baseball on the weekends?! I ended up playing baseball in college, and in Mexico for a little bit, but the feeling of wanting to help people never went away.
To make a long story short, I became a pastor. It was a call that I could not ignore. God had closed some doors, and opened others that led me into ministry. I have been in pastoral ministry for over 20 years and had the honor to help people through a variety of circumstances and situations.
How did you get into coaching?
Glad you asked. I was a pastor and went through a very difficult situation. It almost split our church, but with the Lord’s help, and a mentor I was able to navigate those obstacles and bring the church together. Ironically, pastors from our denomination began to call me and ask for advice. I felt like I was unworthy to pass on any advice to others because I didn’t think I had accomplished much success.
I was reluctant to help others…. mainly because I didn’t think I had much to offer. A desperate pastor called me and cried on the phone. His response sounded like something out of star wars, “ Steve you are my only hope.” I didn’t know what to do so I met with this pastor, listened and asked questions. Somehow this pastor began to make progress and gave me all the credit.
During this time period I was working with a church planting group in Cleveland Ohio, and one of the coaches asked me if I had ever considered coaching others. I explained my reluctancy and he explained to me what real coaching was all about and how it can change lives. Then he informed me that I had been coaching the pastor who needed help, even if it felt like I wasn’t doing much.
I began to look into this further and found the International Coaching Federation. I signed up for some training and eventually earned a credential through the ICF. I’ve been coaching for the last 8 years helping people make their goals a reality while overcoming the obstacles preventing those goals from becoming real. I have been trained and credentialed by several coaching organizations over the years and continue to seek growth in coaching education.
Coaching has allowed me to help other people, and to make the world a better place ( something I wanted to do ever since I was little).
I’ve been married to my wife Destiny for 15 years . Destiny is an amazing woman who has added so much joy and depth to my life. Every year just keeps getting better and better. She was an answer to my prayers, and I’m truly blessed to share life with her.
I’m a blessed dad, and I have a ten year old son Jeffrey. He’s a super bright kid, with a fatastic sense of humor who keeps us busy with his sports and school activities. I’m very proud of him. It’s a honor to be his dad.
